Have you ever noticed how some Dogs and Dogsters just seem to inspire others to new heights? McSpuds is one of those Dogsters.
McSpuds is a border collie in search of a home. Here is the link to the original post about him on the blog. Chang started out in Texas on Death Row. Dogsters saved him and transported him to South Carolina (way to go Dogsters!) where he was supposed to have a foster home. Along the way he gained a new name, McSpuds, and a whole lot of Dogster friends. Now he needs one more who will be his foster home or better still, his furever home.
If you are looking for new pack member or if you just want to read about McSpuds‘ adventures (GREAT diary entries) then visit his Dogster page.
Brutis Mud barked in:
hi joy. if you remember me posting in about Chang the border collie whom we were tryting to get him to his “foster” home well here is an update.
First of all his name is now McSpuds spuds for short.. Sadly Spuds foster family fell through..however.. us dogsters couldn’t let a fellow dog die in a gas chamber anyways sammy took him. sammy however can only keep Spuds for two weeks then spuds well be going to live in NJ with another dogster named Cherokee Cherry for short. we might of found a home for Spuds but it isn’t certain right now so we need backup. we would also like to add if there are any dogsters that would like to foster/adopt Spuds please let us know. From sammy’s feedack he is a great dog. also there are new photos so no more shelter photos. anyways yeah this is McSpuds page.
And then Belgian barked in too:
I’m not sure if you got the letter regarding McSpuds aka Chang. It’s a followup to the story you did of him a while ago.
anyways i’m just asking on behalf of sammy and elsie and all the other dogs on dogster who’ve helped this boy out if you can post it on the blog.
we are still looking for a permanent home or foster for him.
also an update as of today. Sammy’s mom took Spuds to the vet and it was discovered that he has hookworms and kennel cough so if we can get some prayers for him for a safe recoverery
thanx so much for all you do
Belgian, brutis and all the parents and dogs of dogster who helped spuds out

Katrina Cat Finally Gets Home
March 7, 2007 7:17 amThanks to Liz M., Cody’s foster furmom, for barking in this sweet story from TCPalm.com!
Dogs & Cats Forever gives Hurricane Katrina victim, pet ’storybook ending’
By TYLER TREADWAY“Jill” is “Elsa” once again.
Shortly after noon Tuesday, Jenna LaFuentes, who lost her New Orleans home in Hurricane Katrina, was reunited with her cat Elsa, who has been known as Jill at the Dogs & Cats Forever shelter in Port St. Lucie for the past 1 1/2 years.
When she saw the cat in its carrier at the Delta Air Lines counter in Orlando International Airport, LaFuentes broke into tears.
“It was wonderful,” Andrea Nicholson, a volunteer at the no-kill shelter who helped reunite the pet and owner, said at the airport after the reunion. “At the shelter, Jill always ran from strangers; but not today. She acted like she wanted Jenna to pet her. Jenna is convinced that this is her cat, and we’re convinced this is her cat.”
Nicholson reported that LaFuentes peeked in the carrier and said to Elsa, “How are you, baby? I thought I’d never see you again.”
Just before Katrina hit in August 2005, LaFuentes and her 11-year-old daughter, Destiny Taylor, fled their ground-floor apartment in St. Bernard’s Parish and left the gray, tiger- striped Elsa in the care of neighbors upstairs.
But the rising water threatened the upstairs apartment, too; and the neighbors were forced to abandon their home and the cats.
After the storm, LaFuentes searched Web sites for animal shelters that took in animals left homeless by Katrina. In October, she saw a photo of “Jill” on the Dogs & Cats Forever site and was convinced it was Elsa.
Once shelter officials were convinced as well, the reunion was arranged thanks to an anonymous donor who paid LaFuentes’ airfare from New Orleans to Orlando and back home.
Nicholson and Jay Apicella, the shelter director, drove Jill from Port St. Lucie to Orlando for the rendezvous.

Local Thai Authorities Plan to Poison Street Dogs
March 4, 2007 7:40 amI can never understand how some people have such a greatness of heart to spend their lives helping street and rescue dogs. They are the best among us! Then you have local Chiang Mai, Thailand authorities such as the ones mentioned in this posting from Ally’s Care for Dogs Diary. I understand there is great poverty and that hardens some people’s hearts but to wantonly poison stray dogs, there must be some regression on the reincarnation ladder for that kind of behavior!
The reason Karin was not around today was that she was over at Maejo, Wat Vivek & Gasset Mai, doing her weekly feed of the dogs there. As I write this I received a call from her and I am still numb from what she has told me.
She visits Kachou market every week on her journey to Maejo and today she learned that in that area the local Orbitor (elected governor) is planning a street dog cull. Yes PLANNING ! It is said they have asked local residents to keep their own dogs in on a particular date and the local authorities will put poisoned meat down for the street dogs to eat, in order to kill the dogs.
Karin has spent much of her day talking with local people, talking with an animal friendly solicitor and trying to assess the numbers that are likely to be affected by this barbaric action.
Karin has been actively sterilising the dogs in this area for almost a year now and we are continuing to include dogs from this area every week in our program. Does this mean that despite sterilisation, these dogs will be killed? Do these people not understand that if you kill strays, more just move in to populate the same area, where as if you sterilise, the numbers reduce and there is not an influx of new dogs.
This is very bad news for Thailand, Chiang Mai, Dogs & Humanity
