Man saves his drowning dog with CPR

CHICAGO (Reuters) - If a dog is man’s best friend, a disabled U.S. Air Force veteran showed the feeling is mutual by saving his drowning pet with mouth-to-snout resuscitation and CPR.

Lucy, a 10-month-old English bulldog, chased ducks into a partly frozen lake near Randy Gurchin’s home in Papillion, Nebraska, but quickly became paralyzed in the icy water and briefly went under.

The 50-pound (23-kg) dog was unresponsive and had a blue face and bloody foam around its muzzle when Gurchin, who flew combat missions over Iraq and Afghanistan, edged onto the ice.

“The ice started to crack under me. I just picked her up,” he said. “I thought she was dead.”

But Gurchin, 51, put his military first-aid training to use. He closed Lucy’s mouth, put his mouth over her nose and started forcing air into her lungs and pushing on her chest.

Within minutes, the dog began breathing shallowly and was rushed to a nearby veterinarian.

Doctors soaked Lucy in warm water, injected steroids and muscle relaxants and put her in an oxygen chamber. She has since made a full recovery.

“Our little Lucy is back,” said Gurchin’s wife Kelley.

Mule Saves Dogs From Mountain Lion

Thanks to Sal for meowing this in! If anyone knows the original author, please bark or meow in!

And please be aware that these pictures are graphic. They do not constitute my support for killing mountain lions! I am posting them because this is such an unusual occurance!

This is almost unbelievable!

This may be a first…

A couple from Montana were out riding on the range, he with his rifle and she (fortunately) with her camera. Their dogs always followed them, but on this occasion a Mountain Lion decided that he wanted to stalk the dogs (you’ll see the dogs in the background watching). Very, very bad decision…

The hunter got off the mule with his rifle and decided to shoot in the air to scare away the lion, but before he could get off a shot the lion charged in and decided he wanted a piece of those dogs. With that, the mule took off and decided he wanted a piece of that lion. That’s when all hell broke loose… for the lion.

As the lion approached the dogs the mule snatched him up by the tail and started whirling him around. Banging it s head on the ground on every pass. Then he dropped it, stomped on it and held it to the ground by the throat. The mule then got down on his knees and bit the thing all over a couple of dozen times to make sure it was dead, then whipped it into the air again, walked back over to the couple (that were stunned in silence) and stood there ready to continue his ride… as if nothing had just happened.

Fortunately even though the hunter didn’t get off a shot, his wife got off these 4..

You Can Thank District Attorney Paul Howard For Getting Strong Penalties for Georgia Puppy-torturing Brothers

Thanks to Bobbe. L, Dogster Sara’s furmom, for barking in about this petition. We can all thank DA Howard for being a great friend to all dogs by pushing for above and beyond penalties for the evil brothers who horribly abused that Georgia puppy.

So many times we hear about crimes against animals and the criminals are released are required to perform some ridculously minimal penatly. Not this time! This time, DA Howard is the hero who is taking these men off the street before they can harm anyone else, two- or four-legged! Happy barks and howls from the Ward pack!

Hi Joy:

My mom just sent me this petition site link to thank DA Howard for getting the maximum sentence for the torture murder of that Georgia puppy to 10 years jail time and 10 years strict probation. Thought your readers might want to hear about this and better yet, sign the petition.
